Barbara
I am so relieved to hear that your private appointment went well. It is a great relief when you finally find someone who takes the time to listen to you and then makes recommendations. My private consultant did the same. I gave the letter from my private consultant to my NHS consultant and he was not phased at all about following his suggestions. You will need to be on the NHS if you have move onto anti-tnf's as they cost thousands of pounds a year.
I believe that you are now able to be treated at any hospital of your choice in the country and therefore it may well be worth asking your GP to refer you on the NHS to see your private consultant.
I hope that the new regime of medications start relieving your pain as I know your job is important to you. If you are able to continue working it not only benefits you financially but helps with your self-esteem.
Good luck and take care

Barbie, now that you've seen Dr Kaul privately you shouldn't need to ask your GP for a referral to see him on the NHS. You said Dr Kaul said you could ring him if you needed to, so ring him and ask him to transfer you to his NHS list, it could be quicker that way.

Hi Doreen, I thought I needed to go via GP. I thought he meant to contact him for another appt, or just advice on getting meds agreed at Guys rheumy clinic. I think I may just e mail, as I wont feel so self concious about it then, especially if the answer is no!! Thanks x BARBARA

Yes, e-mail's a good idea. I saw my consultant privately to start with, we had medical insurance at the time but they would only cover the RA for so long. After that the consultant just transferred me to his NHS list , I didn't have to go back to my GP so perhaps yours will do the same. No harm in asking anyway!

Hi everyone, have just e mailed Dr. Kaul, and asked to be gtransferred to his NHS rheumy list. Dont know what the chances are, but at least I know I've tried. I learned more in that one visit with him than in the 4 visits to Guys rheumy! Will let you know x BARBARA
